Sound-walk Thingy
So I took a walk around my neighborhood. Unfortunately, I live on Staten Island, so there was literally no noise or sounds unless I walked to the expressway, and then the only sounds would be ones of annoying and intense traffic. So, I decided to take a walk in an around Hunter instead. Right off the bat, I heard noises - people, walking, talking, and making the usual rucus people, especially young people, make. I heard many different disparate conversations and voices, blending together to create the dissonant whole. As I continued my walk, I made it to the third floor of the West building, where some band was playing jazz-y music. It was quite nice. Less talking there and more music. I checked the cafeteria, where voices reached a fever pitch of unintelligible screams, shouts, and other guttural noises. I moved next to the library, where very little spoken language could be heard. Instead, the clickety-clack of keys on keyboard surrounded me. Wanting to go home, I then made my way outside, to be greeted by soundwaves generated by traffic and yet more people talking, although the words spoken by those outside were greatly drowned out by cars, trucks, and incessant horns. In the subway, surprisingly less vocal noises attacked my ears. Instead, the emptyness of the subway tracks greeted me, as they were overcome by the intimidating presence of subway trains, making a hell of a lot of house - more than I heard all day. And that was the end of my journey of sound. I hope it sounded (ha) nice.

Museum of Moving Images
At the Museum of Moving Images, I found myself wondering what to do. This was probably due to the fact that I went alone and therefore without guidance from going with everyone else, but nevertheless, I was still determined to establish an equivalent understanding of the eccentricities and oddities of this unique museum! And so I set off on my journey. I walked far and wide, to and fro. I marveled at the costumes they had on display, and face masks. I steered clear of Breaking Bad, fearing spoilers of a most spoilerific nature. I played around with audio tracks and matching different music to different scenes from movies. I wondered at cameras of all ages. I saw many a sight at the Museum of Moving Images, but none held narry a candle to the most spectacular spectacle of them all - the video game exhibit. Now this was truly something to behold, folks. A Nintendo Entertainment System, old arcade games, the first Sonic the Hedgehog, and more - [almost] all playable as well! It was as of I had been brutally murdered and sent to a lovingly crafted retro heaven. Even the first Donkey Kong game was showcased, and I certainly took to that game - and lost many a coin on it as well! By jove, it was some of the most enchanting times I've had in ages. I normally hate museums, but this one, this one was just simply marvelous, and I fully intend on returning in the near future! I walked out of the museum three hours later, and three hours happier than I had been three hours previously (also three hours poorer, but I digress). I am infinitely happy I adventured this grand place, known as the Museum of Moving Images.

Artist Statement
Everyone in the world has their own stories to share with others. There are stories everywhere, in media, film, gaming, books – and they are all wonderful in their own way, and filled with rich potential to pick people up and send them soaring, up into the endless skies of the imagination. I have my own stories I wish to tell, stories I wish to write and publish as novels, or screenplays for exciting and dramatic television shows and films. I want my work to move people, excite people, effect people – and maybe even their lives – in some way.
The reason I want to write stories is to move people in some way, the way I’ve been moved by others’ stories, and to give them entertainment and enjoyment as well. For most of my life, I’ve loved books, T.V., movies, games – anything with a good story. I’ve always wanted to be an author, however more recently, I discovered a new desire to write for T.V. and/or film. I have always watched T.V. and movies, but the idea to write for them never occurred to me until three years ago, during the Junior year of my High School. That year, I took the class “Video Production”, because I thought it’d be easy and fun. Well, it was both those things, but also so much more. It awoke a passion in me to write stories for T.V. and/or film, where my ideas and passions would reach even more people. The medium of T.V. and film itself is extremely different from that of books, and I find myself drawn to writing for T.V. and films even more than books; in T.V. and films you can be more expressive in both a visual and audio sense, and you can do many things one can’t do in books. It is also easier to make people feel emotion, and to move people, with video rather than with words on a page, due to the visual and audio connection people can make with characters on a T.V. show or movie. In books they never get to see or hear the characters, and being able to see and hear them makes it a much more visceral experience.
Another facet of this are my inspirations, of which there are numerous. One specific inspiration I suppose would be the write/director Edgar Wright. I love his writing and directing style - seen in movies such as Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The World's End, and more. Another inspiration is Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Dollhouse, The Avengers), J.J. Abrams (Alias, LOST, Fringe, Mission Impossible 3, Super 8, Star Trek), and yet another is Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Memento, Inception). My writing will probably incorporate aspects of these directors/writers, although I hope to distinguish my own writing from others, and maybe even make a good name for myself as well. The kind of movies or shows I would like to write are varied, as can be seen from my inspirations, but the most common genre among them would definitely be sci-fi. I love sci-fi, and to write something sci-fi, whether it be a T.V. show or movie, would be amazing.
There is one last thing I'd like to mention here: my true goal and dream of writing an anime. I love anime, more than anything else, and to be able to write one, and give others the joy anime has given to me, would be just too good to be true. Anime, above anything else, is the art form which has most inspired me and my writing. Unfortunately, anime is a notoriously hard area for foreigners (non-Japanese) to break into, and so more likely than not, I will never achieve this goal of mine. But that is ok; I will still always work towards that goal most of all, but that does not mean my other goal of writing for [live-action] T.V. and/or film is any less important to me. That T.V. and film goal is the one I am currently working towards, and one I will achieve, no matter what.

No matter what kind of fictional story writing I end up doing as a career, the most important thing is that I’m able to write stories for a living, which is my dream. To be able to move people - that is what I want to do. And it is this goal I will be working towards during my time hear in FILMP/MEDP 160, as well as for the rest of my life, even after I finally accomplish it – for there will always be more people to move, more people to amaze.
